Ok one more...

What a last day that was!  Thank you for the kind thoughtful gifts and cards. You made this teacher cry! I just watched the slideshow, (make sure you do too), and I am finding it hard to believe that the school year is done and it is summer.  Enjoy the summer break and I will see you in the hall next fall!

LAST BLOG for 2012-2013 MERCI!

June 25th

Cher parents,

Here we are at the end of the year!  Thank you so much for the great support you have shown all year long.  We did a quick introduction to grade one last week (our class went in to observe both grade one classes) and our kindergarten students were very impressed.  I am proud of our students and their accomplishments.  We also had a great turn out for Dad’s Day!  The men and children ran hard and played hard and were ready for the quiet reading time when it was time.  Thank you so much for making it a success.  Last week we also went to the Forestry Farm with our care-partner class and parent volunteers.  It was perfect weather. Unfortunately we did not make it to Riverlanding Spray Park due to the high water levels on the river and inclement weather.  We did however attend the Farewell assembly and puppet shows in Mme Bazin's grade 3 class.  We are looking forward to our last day together: an opportunity to play some, gather our belongings, say goodbye and watch our very own end of the year slide show.  Please note the enclosed yellow supply list for next fall in the report card envelope.  We are looking forward to a great day to say "Au revoir mes amis!"  I hope you all have a wonderful summer.

MERCI!

Mme Jennifer Wallace

La maternelle et les dinosaures

Thank you to all who joined us on our visit to the dinosaur exhibit in the Biology/Geology building at the University of Saskatchewan.  The kids did a great job of completing a scavenger hunt as well as writing about and drawing their favourite dinosaurs on display.  We also enjoyed a snack, a new game of dinosaur tag:"Herbivores et Carnivores" and a new class book entitled: Billy au musee out in the Bowl.  It was a beautiful day.

A look to the weeks ahead

What a great week!  We had a wonderful time at the Children’s Festival. We saw two fantastic shows: The Max Velvet and Charlie Show and Queen of Colours.  Thank you so much to the parents who volunteered as well as those who came to stop by and join us in some of the fun.  It was a beautiful day and our class did very well.  It was good to see a lot of you at the Raise a Reader picnic as well.  June brings so many opportunities for parents to join us in end of the year activities.   It is so encouraging to see the support and community we have at École Victoria School.

That evening is also the Family Fun Night! *Please note important dates on your calendar: There will be no school for all students May 17th (a Professional Development day) and May 20th Victoria Day. There will be no school for kindergarten students May 22nd. That is the date for or our Sneak-a-peek Teddy Bear’s Picnic for prospective kindergarten students. Currently we are finishing our Market poster and will begin a unit on dinosaurs. We are preparing for our Mother’s Day Tea and we are doing alphabet booklets and songs. Please note that there are new books on Voki on this blog. We have begun our work with Monica Barnett on Early Skills Development and that has been going very well in the classroom. *N.B. Newsletter for April

Chers parents,

It is good to see everyone again!  This class is full of bright lights and I am grateful for each one. Thank you for attending our conferences before the break and for being such a supportive group.  Although there are no more official conference times before the end of the school year, please know that you are welcome to contact me to discuss your child and his or her progress.

We will continue our food theme this month and discuss springtime—le printemps.  (Maybe discussing spring will encourage its true arrival.)  We will also be taking part in a program called Early Skills Development.  We welcome a coordinator and trainer in the program to our class to help facilitate that.

Dates: Check the calendar for your child’s special day.  We will be discussing our favourite spring activities.

Please note that Friday May 10th we will be having a Mother’s Day Tea for the mothers in our class. The students will send invitations, but I wanted to give you advance notice. Please book this time off if possible. If you cannot attend and there is a special auntie or Grandma who can be here, please arrange for that. We will have a special program for our moms and it means a lot if you be present.

We will also have a Sneak-a-Peek day for prospective kindergarten students in May.  Students will not be attending that day.   We will let you know that day as soon as possible.

In mid-June we will also attend the Children’s Festival.  We will let you know the date as soon as we have our tickets for a show.

On June 21st we will be having our dad’s day. This day is when our school wide swim is scheduled but we do not plan a swim day for kindergarten. We will be going to the spray park on another day. Again if you cannot make it please see if there is a special uncle or grandpa who can attend.

*Please note we have a new MIMI poster. If you look at the link under MIMI Words entitled: le supermarché you will find the words with their images and recording of the word.

Les bulletins de progrès--report cards today!

Dear parents,
Today your child received his or her first report card.  I am very proud our students’ work and am happy to see the progress they are making.  Please book a three-way conference (we encourage having your child in attendance) for next week Wednesday, March 27th if you have not already done so.  You can do this by contacting the main office (the master sheet is there).  I am looking forward to meeting with you.  I want to encourage you to look at how your child was doing in September and how your child is doing now.  All children are different and progress at their own pace.  March 27th is also our four food group day  when students will bring something for a shared snack.  It is the last day before the Easter Break.

Please note that Friday May 10th we will be having a Mother’s Day Tea for the moms in our class.  The students will send invitations, but I wanted to give you advance notice.  Please book this time off if possible.  If you cannot attend and there is a special auntie or Grandma who can be here, please arrange for that.  We will have a special program for our moms and it means a lot if you be present.

If you look at the link under MIMI Words entitled:
le supermarché you will find the words with their images and recording of the word.

I will be posting photos of our fruit salad, our soup and our still life painting soon.  Please take a look at our display in the glass case in the LRC.

March is our class nutrition month--Mars, le mois de la nutrition

Thank you/Merci to all the parents who came to help out with our sledding and skating party. We had a wonderful time and managed to get good weather that day and topped it off avec des biscuits et du chocolat chaud! It is hard to believe that it is March. Here is a copy of the latest newsletter here:

 Chers parents,
Here are a few highlights from the past month:
• We have completed our work with the snowman words from our 3rd “photo de MIMI”. We will start our new poster next week.
• In math we have been counting and counting and counting. On our 100 hundredth day of school we spent a lot of time working with the concept of 100.  We have also been counting by tens!
• I hope you are all enjoying the read-at-home books, Le français…oui, oui, oui par Madame Nathalie. Great work!

What’s new in March?
Along with our new Market Photo for MIMI we will begin a unit on food and nutrition. We will learn a lot of useful vocabulary related to foods and the 4 food groups from Canada’s Food Guide.
We also plan on some very exciting “Food” related activities during the month. Please note the following dates on your calendar:

Les livres chez vous ~ Take home books

The students will be taking home books in their dossiers. Each book has a number in the bottom left hand corner and a title.  You can check the book number and title with the subsequent blog posts and read along.  (Please note the timing on the books are 1 minute in length so it goes by quickly.  It is okay to pause or re-visit the same recording.)  This is an opportunity to read-along in French and hear and see the correct pronunciation.  I hope that you and your child enjoy!

Bienvenue Boule le bonhomme de neige

Bienvenue Boule!
Voici notre nouvel ami.
He was created by our class.  The students chose names and voted on his final name.  They also decided what he would say.

"Bonjour.  Comment ça va? Je m'appelle Boule le bonhomme de neige. Mes amis m'ont construit. J'ai reçu un chapeau magique et maintenant je suis vivant. J'ai toujours froid. Je suis content. J'aime faire les anges. Je mange la neige."

~Hello.  How are you?  I am called Boule the snowman.  My friends built me.  I received a magical hat and now I am alive. I am always cold.  I am happy.  I like making angels.  I eat snow.~

Bravo la maternelle!

*Currently we are learning shapes as well.  Check out the Chillola link  for shapes in French.  You can also click on the MIMI link: Jouer dans la neige to see our poster and hear the words. There are some other great links on this blog to check out when kids are stuck inside because of the cold.  Another great site Wumpa.

Bravo la maternelle!

Le 24 janvier, 2013

Chers parents,

Un grand MERCI!  Thank you to all those who attended our assembly!  I am very proud of how our students performed.  Bravo!   Thank you also for the photos you sent.  In 8 school days we will be having 100 days of school celebration on Wednesday, Feb 6th.  The students are invited to bring an item to share for a “100 days” snack in a small plastic bag.  For example: 100 Cheerios, or 100 raisins, 100 smarties, 100 pretzel sticks, 100 Shreddies squares…  We will mix these snacks in a bowl for our shared trail mix snack.  Please do not send anything containing nuts.  You are welcome to do a 100 days project at home and send it to school but this is not required.  We will do some 100 days activities and have a bit of a party.

We will continue our theme of L’hiver and our current MIMI poster.  See the previous post on the blog for the photo and words.  We have recently done alphabet testing and the students have come a long way from September. I will send a letter home next week with the results.
This month we will also visit friendship and continue speaking on Kindness.   Included in the  newsletter that went home is a list of names for Valentine’s cards.
In math we will begin focusing on shapes as well.  If you would like to send a shape object that can be glued to a collage you can send them in your child’s dossier.
Merci pour votre soutien,
Thank you for your support.  A calendar will be sent next week.

Assembly performance

Chers parents,

We are looking forward to our assembly very much; it is Thursday January 24th at 9am in the gymnasium.  We would love to see you in the audience!  If you have any pictures of your child doing winter activities such as: sledding, skating, making a snowman, making snow angels, skiing, snowmobiling, making a fort….please email them to

Mme Wallace: wallacej@spsd.sk.ca

We hope to have a multi-media presentation.  We are enjoying singing and learning vocabulary about winter.  It seems that January is magical when it comes to growth and learning in Kindergarten.  They are so knowledgeable and ready to show what they know.  Currently we are testing alphabet knowledge in French.  It is amazing to see how far the students have come since the beginning of September.  Thank you again for supporting our class.

Merci!

Mme J. Wallace
